A joint UT and ORNL venture, the Computational Science Initiative (CSI) represents a new level of opportunity for collaborative research in computationally-intensive fields of science and engineering. The initiative offers financial support and access to the extraordinary computing facilities housed in the ORNL Center for Computational Sciences.

CSI helps to insure productive use of computing resources and increases effective collaboration. Its funding supports post-doctoral associates, graduate students, and visitors as well as release time and sabbatical support for faculty and staff.

CSI Goals

RAISE  the UT and ORNL computational science research profile, and

EASE  access to ORNL computing facilities for University of Tennessee research scientists

High-Performance Computing Resources

The ORNL National Center for Computational Sciences (CCS) in the Computing and Computational Sciences Directorate houses state-of-the-art resources for high-performance computational science and computing science research projects. CSI users can apply for access to these machine through the CSI program.

Getting started

Researchers can apply for CSI support through a simple two-step process.
  1. Send a brief proposal that describes the research and addresses the goals of the CSI to Jesse Poore (poore@cs.utk.edu) and Thomas Zacharia (zac@ornl.gov), with a copy to Christian Halloy (halloy@jics.utk.edu).

  2. Upon receipt of approval, apply for a NCCS account. Additional information on this process is available on the ORNL NCCS Account Policies—Overview page.
