    2012 JDRD Awards

In October 2011, 16 proposals were submitted for first-year funding, each joined to one of the XX funded ORNL LDRD projects. Eight first-year projects and four second-year proposals received JDRD awards. Factors that influenced the selections included the following:

    - Technical merit of the proposal
    - Opportunities for faculty members to establish new collaborations at ORNL
    - Prospects for future external funding
    - Inclusion of graduate and undergraduate students in the research
    - Proposals that were especially timely or strategic for UT Knoxville
